Bold, Colorful, Creative, Fun … words that describe Cassandra Bazhaw and her body of artwork. Her introspective mindset and abstract expressionist nature provides the stage and impetus that propels her as the artist that finds beauty in simplicity and promotes it to artistic reality. Her goal is to provide the visual channel to experience the world she sees but within our own context.
An additional aspect of this talented artist’s work are the ingenious artwork titles. They are fun, clever and usually not so obvious to the work but more to the human experience.
A good example of this are the three artworks she has chosen to display at the Port Isabel Public Library during the month of November. They are Family Reunion, a grouping of ice plant succulent cactus; Use It or Lose It, a black and white capture of a fraying rope; and Home Sweet Home, a vintage Harley Davidson motorcycle parked in front of Harley and Davidson’s original garage.
Cassandra is a life long photographer. Since early childhood she has been photographing everything that caught her eye. She continues to do so to this day. Her foundation as a professional photographic artist is derived by the many years of behind the lens experience coupled with participation in classes, workshops and a personal mentoring by a Cleo Award winning photographer.
Cassandra’s educational background is in Industrial Psychology coupled with a long term career in Human Resources.
With that career behind her, she now enjoys the ability to focus her life on seeking, capturing, creating and sharing the many beautiful and unusual photographic scenes that encase her body of work.
Cassandra Bazhaw, a native born Californian, currently maintains residences and studios in Washington and South Texas. She is also an avid boater with a love for water, nature and lighthouses. This is what drew her to Port Isabel.
“I am totally in love with the historic Port Isabel Lighthouse, I feel so at home when I am around it”. You will often find Cassandra and her husband Jack roaming around Port Isabel and South Padre Island mingling with friends and photographing the many beautiful shoreline scenes found in the area.
Cassandra is an avid supporter of the arts. She maintains memberships with the Laguna Madre Art League (Port Isabel), Upper Valley Art League(Mission), Harlingen Art Forum (Harlingen) in Texas and the Whatcom Art Guild and Allied Arts of Whatcom County in Bellingham, Washington.
