Good weather, great food and music helped make the 21st Annual World’s Championship Shrimp Cook-Off in Port Isabel a success.
A panel of judges selected top winners from the highly skilled area chefs in both professional and amateur divisions, and once again the Showmanship Award went to Padre Rita Grill of South Padre Island.
Dirty Al’s at Pelican Station in Port Isabel took the top prize in the professional division, with the Island’s Senor Donkey in second place and Palm Street Pier taking third place.
Dennis and Renee Sanchez put together delectable dishes to capture first place in the amateur division, while Delicias Express came in second and Sutherlands Express took third place.
Island resident Rachel Davidson held the winning raffle ticket for a 32-inch TV donated by Archer Business Systems.
The cook-off is sponsored each year by the Port Isabel Chamber of Commerce as one of the organization’s largest fundraisers.
