The investigation starts on a shrimp boat that ran aground off South Padre Island. The boat was stuck for nearly a week.
CHANNEL 5’s Michael Scott was out there today when crews worked to bring the boat off the sand bar. It took crews just under three hours to remove the shrimp boat, the Jackie C. last week when it went aground.
It happened near Isla Blanca Park. The boat was attempting to seek refugee from Tropical Storm Dolly. It’s a Mexican shrimper with four men on board.
Crews finally pulled the boat off the sand bar Sunday. The U.S. Coast Guard was out there monitoring the operation. A different contracting company pulled the Jackie C. out by rope.
The Coast Guard says the salvage operation went smoothly. The boat is now at Port Isabel. Officials in Brownsville are questioning the men on board. They are investigating what exactly went wrong.
