Zombies invaded South Padre Island on Halloween night.
Local resident Stephanie Wilson is credited as the mastermind behind the first Zombie Walk that took place at the SPI Birding and Nature Center. “I was reading an article, and they were talking about a zombie walk that they had at another location, and I thought it would be a fun idea for Halloween,” she said. Wilson said when trying to find a location to host the event, she immediately thought of the Birding and NatureCenter. “They have the boardwalks and the building is beautiful,” she said.
Although admission was free for guests who attended the walk, donations were accepted to help continue funding for the center. Hosts were dressed for the occasion as guests began to arrive for the evening’s festivities. Some of the events included a screening of the horror classic “Night of The Living Dead,” a pumpkin-carving contest, a costume contest, raffle tickets and door prizes.
