Authorities temporarily stopped traffic on the Queen Isabella Memorial Causeway while a repair crew aboard a helicopter worked on a power line. The repairs are taking place on a series of power lines just south of the causeway on the South Padre Island side of the bridge. South Padre Island Live cameras captured images of a helicopter crew performing repair work on one the lines.
Authorities stopped traffic on the causeway while the crew worked on the power line. South Padre Island City spokesman Adrian Rodriguez told Action 4 News that repairs to the line will be taking place through Wednesday. Rodriguez said upgrades are needed to the power lines and a nearby transformer. But Rodriguez said work crews cannot enter through the water because the area to the south of the causeway is very environmentally sensitive. Rodriguez said using the helicopter is being used to make the repairs instead.
AEP Texas spokesman Frank Espinoza confirmed that the specialized crew will be performing maintenance work on a transmission line located on the Island. Espinoza said the work is expected to take place during normal business hours through Wednesday. Motorists are being asked to expect some delays while traveling to and from South Padre Island.
